About Me

I continually push the boundaries and challenge limitations put on me by society, achieving many things and experiencing success.

My first language is English, but the language of my heart is NZSL (New Zealand Sign Language) and I am part of the Deaf community.

By using speech and hearing aids, I can communicate with hearing people. In meetings, group discussions and workshops or conferences, I use NZSL interpreters to make sure I don’t miss anything.

I have taught Deaf and hearing impaired students for 20 years, some of whom have additional special needs. I have been counselling for 10 years, been a Chaplain for Deaf in Auckland, and have been involved in pastoral care for over 30 years.

Kiri is my wonderful Hearing Assistance Dog and we belong to Perfect Partners Assistance Dog Trust. We are a team and she sometimes works with me as she’s also a trained Therapy Dog.

For relaxation I like gardening, art, reading, walking in the bush or along the beach, and spending time with family and friends.
